Picking the Best Gaming Motherboard

When it comes to building a gaming PC, choosing the best motherboard is the main thing. It allow you to upgrade your system needed and support with HASWELL/AMD. Here we will discuss different aspects in this regard.

What to look in motherboard?

The term “Gaming” seems to be useless for most of the people. But we are sure that some of the PC enthusiasts are fond of overclocking and SLI or Crossfire. We will also be covering some budget friendly boards for those who don’t want these features.

As always, it is the first thing that you should look over your needs before deciding about gaming motherboard. Some of the important objectives could be:

  • Over clocking
  • RAM OCing
  • Simple BIOS
  • SLI support

There may not be much difference between Intel and AMD regarding quality components, but Haswell and FX products are totally different from each other. Most obvious part is the Chipset design because AMD still uses the old design, whereas Intel has moved to unified PCH.

The quality is the king among all users, even budget conscious users take quality very seriously while choosing the best one.

Heat piping and cooling control are other important factors in choosing a gaming motherboard, especially if you are going to buy AMD product because it still uses old design. A good and proper heat control system will help cooling down the CPU during high end performance. A good heat control system allows heat dissipation at a higher level. Those who are fans of overclocking, may suffer from extensive heat up issues. So, try to find a good heat control mechanism.

The power supply is another important factor, because a good power supply system will pass out the power to CPU without any voltage drop outs. Normally, capacitors in all electronic devices are fairly reliable. But a gaming motherboard should have Gold plated capacitor. They provide stability without any power drop outs. Moreover, these capacitors last for a longer period of time. So, it is important to look for capacitor type before buying a board.

Phase power is very important if you are going with AMD product. We have not personally tested 32 phase design, but we can imagine about it that it is entirely irrelevant for overclocking. Actually, the blocks present around the central processing unit are responsible for cleaning out the power that is delivered to the CPU.
Phase power design is usually written as 4+1, 4+1+1, 8+2, 16+2, etc. These numbers declare the phase which is going to the CPU. For example, in 16+2, there are 16 phases going to the central processing unit. And the number 2 is indicating the phases dedicated to other parts of gaming motherboard.
